jump to navigation free advice for asylum seekers, refugees and recent migrants home about us support our work volunteering contact us other services case studies welcome to the subscribe to our mailing list has moved has recently moved to a new location as the rooms we use at st mary’s church are being rebuilt. from the wednesday 24th april 2019 we have moved to st mark’s church, st mark’s rise, dalston, london e8 2lj. enter the building from the car park on colvestone crescent. hmc weekly advice drop-in every wednesday registration begins at 8:30am. we can only see the first 20 people who arrive. at present the first 20 people often join our queue before 8:30am. is a charity that runs a weekly drop-in for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. during the drop-in we offer free advice and casework on: immigration homelessness and insecure housing, including destitution cases with no recourse to public funds and asylum support poverty relief, including food bank vouchers, grants etc we also provide that health advocacy can help with access to nhs services, gp registration and problems with nhs charges. we offer everyone who accesses our service, a free, nutritious, cooked meal and a safe and welcoming environment. we can also offer limited support and signposting to relevant services on the following range of issues: benefit issues debt employment mental health support e.g. counselling and trauma services we do not offer casework on these issues. we have an in-house destitution coordinator who provide advice and casework on homelessness and poverty relief and a caseworker for migrant families and young people (part of our moving out of hardship project funded by the big lottery fund). we work with a wide range of partner agencies which include: immigration advisers from islington and lambeth law centre and coram children's legal centre (part of our moving out of hardship project funded by the big lottery fund) (weekly) housing solicitors from hackney community law centre and miles & partners (once a month each) social work advocates from together with migrant children (once a month) health advocates from homerton nhs (weekly) and doctors of the world (once a month) the drop-in is held every wednesday only, 10:30am-4pm (we open for registration at 8:30am). please be aware that demand is very high on our service and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to assist everyone who approaches us. if we cannot see you on the day, we will provide you with a list of other services you may wish to try. we can only see the first 20 visitors to our service who we triage between 10:30am-12.30pm and are booked in for afternoon advice slots after lunch, between 1.00-4.00pm. each week we are seeing more people than our advisers can provide advice for so we might not be able to offer everyone an advice slot with an adviser. it is very important to bring with you any documents you have about your immigration status, including refusal letters and tribunal decisions, as this will help our advisers. if you need immigration advice, and you have been to the first-tier tribunal before, you must bring the decision from that hearing, otherwise we cannot advise you - if you do not have it, you can call the tribunal’s customer service line and get them to send it to you. if you come to hmc for immigration or housing advice and you have a bank account, please bring 6 months worth of bank statements with you. we mainly provide initial advice. we might not be able to help you find a representative to take your case on as we have a waiting list of people for whom we cannot find lawyers. we do not provide appointments unless there are exceptional circumstances which should be arranged with us in advance. has been very effective in helping people. read some case studies of visitors who have benefited from attending the drop-in. for information about other similar services that you can access click here and for other sources of immigration advice, click here download our flyer we have also written a number of reports on our work and issues that affect our visitors here. our work is funded by the big lottery fund follow @hackneymigrants contact: [email protected] tel: 07504332706 log in site copyright © 2008-19 fela maslen
